‘La Damoiselle Elue’
Prelude and Closing Section (B)

(arranged for Organ by Geoffrey Atkinson)

Debussy’s exquisite early cantata (1888) is an oddly successful amalgam of the religious and the erotic. Even more surprisingly perhaps the glistening orchestral textures sound well on the organ, and moreover lie comfortably under the hand. Your publisher is not quite sure when one would use this, but, beyond doubt, it is extremely beautiful music, and could arguably be suitable for a wedding.
