This piece was composed specially for a concert given in April 2022 by Norman & Marilyn Harper on the 1797 Schnitger/Freytag organ in the Magnuskerk Bellingwolde, Netherlands. The Duo is built on an ostinato figure on the pedals, which is passed from one player to the other in alternation. The livelier central section is based upon the melody of the Dutch National Anthem, followed by a return of the opening themes. The registrations in the score are the ones used for this organ, and organists are invited to find equivalents or to explore alternative sounds which work on their own instruments.
