The melody on which these variations are based is an old French carol taken
from 'Christmas Carols, New and Old' 2nd edition, collected and arranged by H.
R. Bramley and John Stainer, circa 1871. It received a world-wide audience as
part of the 2010 Festival of Lessons and Carols from King's College, Cambridge
in a new arrangement by the Australian organist June Nixon.
