Born in 1976 in Málaga, on the Costa del Sol,  Miguel Pérez already has a vast catalogue which includes the most diverse genres and in which music in a popular idiom has an important place. His music has been played in Spain, Portugal, France, Mexico and Belgium, with recordings for RTVA and RNE including premières at the National Auditorium for Music and the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Madrid, and at the World-Expo '98 Lisbon, Portugal.  At present he shares his activities as a composer with teaching duties at the Municipal School of Music of Nerja near Málaga.

The Five Popular Dances were composed in 1997 and premièred by the great Spanish organist, Pilar Cabrera, at the National Auditorium of Music, Madrid, in 1998.
